A VETERAN'S DAY CEREMONY WAS HELD YESTERDAY AT THE PIONEER CENTER IN WEATHERFORD. EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF HONORING AMERICAS WARRIORS, SCOTTY DEATHERIDGE ADDRESSED THE MANY VETERANS IN ATTENDANCE AT YESTERDAY'S EVENT. OTHER VETERANS DAY EVENTS WERE HELD IN CLINTON YESTERDAY WITH A PARADE, AND AN ASSEMBLY AT SAYRE HIGH SCHOOL.

A REGISTERED NURSE WITH CORDELL MEMORIAL HOSPITAL HAS BEEN HONORED WITH THE FIRST EVER ABOVE & BEYOND AWARD BY THE HOSPITAL.  FARREN EVETTS WAS GIVEN THE AWARD FOR HER ACTION TO HELP SOMEONE IN NEED.  A RECENT VISITOR TO CORDELL FOUND THAT PERSON ILL AND DESPERATE FOR HER PRESCRIPTION ON A SUNDAY. HOWEVER, ALL OF THE PHARMACIES WERE CLOSED.  CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER LANDON HISE SAYS EVETTS WENT THE EXTRA MILE TO MAKE SURE THE WOMAN WAS WELL TAKEN CARE OF AND RECEIVED HER MEDICATION.

A SMALL DECREASE IN SALES TAX FOR THE CITY OF WEATHERFORD FOR THE SECOND CONSECUTIVE MONTH.  THE LESS THAN THREE-QUARTERS OF ONE PERCENT DECREASE STILL HAVE SALES TAX REVENUES UP 51 OF THE PAST 55 MONTHS.  YEAR TO DATE, SALES TAX REVENUE IN THE CITY REMAINS UP 2.36%.

MEMBERS OF THE SOUTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA STATE UNIVERSITY STUDENT NURSES ASSOCIATION ARE COLLECTING NEW OR BARELY USED COATS TO GIVE TO THE AGAPE CLINIC IN WEATHERFORD.  THE COATS WILL BE GIVEN TO INDIVIDUALS IN NEED OF COATS DURING THE UPCOMING COLD WEATHER SEASON.  DROP OFF BOXES ARE LOCATED IN THE MAIN OFFICE OF THE SWOSU SCHOOL OF NURSING ON THE FIRST FLOOR OF PARKER HALL, AND THE WELLNESS CENTER ON THE WEATHERFORD CAMPUS.  THE GROUP WILL COLLECT COATS THROUGH DECEMBER 8TH.

A COLLEGE REMEDIATION REPORT WAS PRESENTED TO THE WEATHERFORD SCHOOL BOARD OF EDUCATION EARLIER THIS WEEK BY SUPERINTENDENT MATT HOLDER. HOLDER SAYS THE NUMBERS LOOK GOOD. HOLDER SAYS THE NUMBERS DO NOT INCLUDE STUDENTS WHO ATTEND PRIVATE OR OUT OF STATE COLLEGES.

THE SAYRE CITY COUNCIL MET RECENTLY AND APPROVED TO INCREASE APPROPRATIONS FOR THE SENIOR CITIZENS' CENTER. CITY MANAGER GUY HYLTON SAYS THE CENTER LOST A PORTION OF IT'S FUNDING THROUGH COMMUNITY ACTION. HYLTON SAYS THE COUNCIL APPROVED $15,000 OF APPROPRATED DOLLARS FOR THE SENIOR CITIZEN CENTER.

THE WEATHERFORD SCHOOL BOARD OF EDUCATION HAS DECIDED TO FILL THE VACANT WARD 5 BOARD SEAT WITH DENNIS GREEN SAYS DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT MATT HOLDER. GREEN WAS APPOINTED TO FILL THE UNEXPIRED TERM OF KURT LINSTEAD.

THE ELK CITY COMMISSION MET RECENTLY AND APPROVED A BID RECEIVED FROM WHEELED COACH FOR A NEW AMBULANCE. ITERIM CITY MANAGER LEE LITTRELL SAYS THE NEW AMBULANCE WILL MOVE SOME OTHER VEHICLES AROUND IN THE CITY'S FLEET. LITTRELL SAYS THE WINNING BID WENT TO WHEELED COACH, AT JUST OVER $152,000.

A RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY WAS HELD THIS MORNING TO CELEBRATE THE COMPLETION OF A 31,000 SQUARE FOOT ADDITION TO EMMANUEL BAPTIST CHURCH IN WEATHERFORD.  PASTOR DAVID LAWRENCE SAYS THE ADDITION WILL SERVE MANY PURPOSES. PASTOR LAWRENCE SAYS THE ADDITION INCLUDES A NEW COMMERCIAL KITCHEN AND BATHROOMS WITH SHOWERS THAT CAN BE UTILITIZED IN THE FUTURE FOR DISASTER RELIEF PURPOSES.
