THE BECKHAM COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE AND ELK CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT HAVE BEEN RECEIVING PHONE CALLS FROM CONCERNED PARENTS OVER A SOCIAL MEDIA POST THAT CLAIMS A CHILDREN'S BOOK SALESMAN IS INVOLVED WITH CHILD ABDUCTIONS IN THE AREA. BECKHAM COUNTY SHERIFF SCOTT JAY SAYS, THAT SIMPLY ISN'T TRUE. SHERIFF JAY SAYS THERE ARE SALES MEN IN THE AREA SELLING CHILDREN'S BOOKS, HOWEVER, THERE IS NO INFORMATION THAT TIES THEM TO ANY ILLEGAL ACTIVITY INCLUDING HUMAN TRAFFICKING, AND NO ARREST HAVE BEEN MADE.

THE WEATHERFORD CITY COMMISSION THIS WEEK APPROVED A BID OF JUST UNDER $40,000 FROM MIRACLE RECREATION FOR TODDLER-SAFE PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT AT RADER PARK.  SPOKESPERSON TODD EARP. EARP SAYS A LOWER BID OF JUST OVER $33,000 WAS FOR THE EQUIPMENT, FENCE AND SURFACING.  HE SAYS THE CITY WOULD HAVE HAD TO INSTALL THE EQUIPMENT.

A SENTINEL WOMAN IS DEAD FOLLOWING A ONE VEHICLE ACCIDENT IN WASHITA COUNTY.  THE OKLAHOMA HIGHWAY PATROL SAYS THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED SOMETIME BETWEEN MONDAY EVENING AND TUESDAY AFTERNOON ON STATE HIGHWAY 44, 1.5 MILES SOUTH OF SENTINEL.  TROOPER SAY 49 YEAR OLD ANGIE MARIE LAFLEUR DIED AT THE SCENE FROM HEAD INJURIES.  OHP SAYS LAFLEUR WAS DRIVING NORTH ON STATE HIGHWAY 44 WHEN SHE DEPARTED THE ROAD FOR AN UNKNOWN REASON, STRUCK A HIGHWAY SIGN AND EMBANKMENT.

THE WEATHERFORD AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE WILL BE IN SEARCH FOR A NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR SOON. TERRI TRENT HAS BEEN WITH THE CHAMBER FOR NEARLY 6 YEARS. TRENT SAYS SHE IS STEPPING DOWN DUE TO FAMILY ISSUES.  HER LAST DAY ON THE JOB IS OCTOBER 31ST.

THE BECKHAM COUNTY ELECTION BOARD REMINDS AREA RESIDENTS OF UPCOMING DEADLINES BEFORE THIS NOVEMBER'S GENERAL ELECTION. ELECTION BOARD SECRETARY DEIDRE O'BRIANT SAYS ANYONE WANTING TO REGISTER TO VOTE OR IF THEY'RE ALREADY A REGISTERED VOTER AND WOULD LIKE TO CHANGE INFORMATION AS A REGISTERED VOTER, AND STILL BE ABLE TO VOTE IN THIS YEAR'S ELECTION MUST DO SO NO LATER THAN MIDNIGHT BY OCTOBER 10TH. THE LAST DAY TO APPLY FOR MAIL ABSENTEE BALLOTS FOR THE GENERAL ELECTION IS OCTOBER 29TH. O'BRIANT SAYS ANYONE NEEDING A VOTER REGISTRATION APPLICATION CAN PICK ONE UP AT THE BECKHAM COUNTY ELECTION BOARD OFFICE IN SAYRE, MOST POST OFFICES, TAG AGENCIES, AND PUBLIC LIBRARIES IN THE COUNTY. SHE SAYS FORMS CAN ALSO BE DOWNLOADED AND PRINTED FROM ELECTIONS DOT O K DOT GOV. THIS YEAR'S GENERAL ELECTION IS NOVEMBER 4TH.

THE WEATHERFORD CITY COMMISSION THIS WEEK TABLED ACTION UNTIL EITHER OCTOBER OR NOVEMBER ON A 25 YEAR FRANCHISE FOR CENTERPOINT ENERGY.  MAYOR MIKE BROWN OUTLINES THE PROPOSAL. THE CURRENT FRANCHISE AGREEMENT HAD BEEN FOR 15 YEARS.  ANY AGREEMENT WOULD STILL NEED TO BE APPROVED BY VOTERS DURING AN ELECTION.

THE OKLAHOMA BUREAU OF NARCOTICS WAS IN ARAPAHO TODAY AT THE CUSTER COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT TO INSTALL A DROP BOX TO ALLOW THE PUBLIC TO SAFELY DISPOSE OF UNUSED OR UNNEEDED PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS.  OBN DIRECTOR DARRELL WEAVER SAYS IT HAS BEEN A SUCCESSFUL PROGRAM AROUND THE STATE. WEAVER SAYS OBN HAS A PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT WITH COVANTA ENERGY IN TULSA TO SAFELY DESTROY THE DRUGS COLLECTED FROM THE DISPOSAL BOXES.  THE BOX, LOCATED IN THE LOBBY OF THE CUSTER COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT, CAN BE ACCESSED FROM 8-4 MONDAY-FRIDAY.

A SERVICE AGREEMENT WITH AIR EVAC HAS BEEN APPROVED BY THE WEATHERFORD REGIONAL HOSPITAL BOARD OF TRUSTEES.  THE BOARD APPROVED THE AGREEMENT PENDING THAT AIR EVAC WILL ACCEPT THE CONTRACT WITH CHANGES MADE BY THE HOSPITAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE.  BOARD MEMBER BRAD BERRONG OUTLINES THE DETAILS OF THE PROPOSAL. THE $2000 REPRESENTS THE LEASE OF THE LAND FROM THE HOSPITAL.

AN ASSISTANT DISTRICT ATTORNEY HAS RECIEVED TWO MORE AWARDS.  ANGELA MARSEE OF WEATHERFORD RECEIVED THE DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN SERVICE TO VICTIMS AND SURVIVORS OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND THE AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN ACTION AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.  THE FIRST AWARD WAS PRESENTED LAST MONTH AT THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE FOR PARTNERS FOR CHANGE ON DOMESTIC & SEXUAL VIOLENCE AND STALKING.  THE SECOND AWARD WILL BE PRESENTED TOMORROW AT THE STATE CAPITOL, RECOGNIZING FRONT-LINE INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE DEDICATED TO RESPONDING TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE INCIDENTS AND/OR PROVIDING SERVICES TO VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.
